In the spirit of my A-to-Z list of styles, here’s a quiz to tell you what style you could be suited for:

What martial art would suit you?iaido

One of the lesser known arts – the way of the sword. Lethal when applied – though extremely hard to master. Savagely beautiful to witness, this art is a way of life more than anything else.

Not too far off — Iaido is a style I’ve wanted to study, but I’ve never been able to find an instructor. I’ve always loved blades — swords, in particular. Once I’ve got time and money, I do intend to take up Kumdo (the Korean version of Kendo).

Contest Information

And just for fun, I’m making this into a contest. Just take the quiz and in the comments below, post your result and whether or not you think the result’s accurate. On November 1st, I’ll chose a winner at random from everyone who posts a comment between now and October 31st. The prize is a copy of Sang H. Kim’s Martial Arts After 40.

  1. Riayn says:

According to the quiz, my ideal style is karate. It is not far off what I am currently doing. I am currently learning Kung Fu and the style we practice is a mixture of Southern Chinese styles that have some correlation with karate.

  2. Felicia says:

Kung Fu was my result. Kinda makes sense, I guess, since I was first introduced to MA via Saturday afternoon Kung Fu flicks. Would love to study it – someday, when extra time and $ permit, LOL…

  3. I got Karate, which makes sense to me, since it’s what I do study, and I think it suits me well.

  4. Michele says:

No surprises here…Karate for me. :)

    Fun quiz…

  5. Kung Fu – Perhaps the most varied and popular of all the arts – the original Chinese Boxing. The list of ways you can disable an opponent are endless – a truely fantastic skill, and still applicable today.

That works for me! :) I study Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Muay Thai and boxing. But I’m definitely not adding one more style! Thanks for hosting a contest!

  6. Hm, I got Iaido. I practice Aikido. I wonder what I would have had to answer to get that result…
